On August 23, 2015 more than 300 youth participants from different Youth Organizations in Valencia City assembled at the City Hall Covered Court to celebrate the 17th National Youth Day with the theme, “Youth Civic Engagement in Agriculture and Fisheries.” The activity was attended by Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PYAP Valencia City Chapter), Bidlisiw Kilos Kabataan, Inc., Black Orchid Text Clan, Miss Valencia Society, Rotaract Club of Metro Valencia, Pilipinas Natin and Gawad Kalinga, Unlad Pilipinas, Barangay Youth Task Force Batangan, San Isidro Generation Band, and NMR One Youth Entertainment Inc.

“This is the first time the City Government of Valencia joined the National Youth Day Celebration and the main objective of this event is to unite all Youth Organizations in Valencia City, that the youth can showcase their talents and have fun. Holding this event would encourage them to participate more in the programs of the government that could benefit them,” Ms. Vanessa Anne Alvarez, the Youth Focal Person explained.

During the first part of the whole day celebration, a symposium on Sex Education and STI, HIV Awareness was conducted with Hon. Policarpo P. Murillo IV, MD as the speaker, and being the Co-Chairperson of the Valencia City AIDS Council, he emphasized that the youth should be sexually responsible and must not engage in matters that could hamper their studies and most especially their health.

The Local Chief Executive, Hon. Azucena P. Huervas, who initiated the celebration, encouraged the youth to engage in activities that could make them productive and also help save mother nature since Valencia City is an agricultural city. She also emphasized the need for the youth to respect their parents and the elders. “There is a time for everything, enjoy your youth but stay away from drugs and vices,” she added.
