DOH Launches National Deworming Day:
Oplan Goodbye Bulate


July 23, 2015: Print and broadcast media partners in Bukidnon flock at Taipan Restaurant at Valencia City as Department of Health Regional Office 10 together with Valencia City Health Office and Malaybalay City Health Office conducts a press conference dubbed as, “TALAKAYAN- Oplan Goodbye Bulate” for the National School Deworming Day on July 29, 2015.

Dr. Ricardo Reyes, the Provincial Medical Officer of the Province of Bukidnon states that the Department of Health aims to deworm 16 million elementary school children ages 5-12 years old children in over 3,000 Public Elementary Schools in the whole nation. Dr. Reyes added that this mass deworming can improve the over-all status of children including the hemoglobin level and increase growth and cognitive response among children. He also appeals to the local media to help disseminate information to the constituents of the 31 barangays of Valencia City with about 32,000 school children.

The National School Deworming Day on July 29, 2015 will be facilitated by the Department of Education through the City Health Office together with the Department of Education, wherein the mass drug administration providers are the School Teachers. DepEd have prepared a waiver which will be signed by the parents as consent that they are allowing their children for deworming. At 10:00AM all school children will simultaneously take the chewable tablet.

Also present during the press conference are Dr. Juniver Flores, Medical Officer of Valencia City, Ms. Monina F. Coronel, Devt. Management Officer IV of DOH X, Dr. Marlyn V. Agbayani, City Health Officer of Valencia City. Dr. Dennis Sangalang, City Health Officer of Malaybalay City and Mr. Jimbo Russell Agbayani EPS-I of Schools Division of Valencia City.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Marlyn V. Agbayani, Valencia City Health Officer said that 90 percent of the health services are for the preventive aspect while 10 percent are for the clinical aspect and that prevention is still better than cure.
