Received Social Pension

Senior Citizens

June 24-25, 2015: A total of 833 elders received social pension from BUB and the City Government of Valencia headed by City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas through the City Social Welfare and Development Office led by Juanita A. Javier, RSW, City Social Welfare and Development Officer and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs through its Administrator, Alejandra B. Quinones. P4M is from 2014 BUB fund and P1M counterpart from the City Government of Valencia.

Indigent Senior Citizens as identified by the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs OSCA received Php 6,000.00 each as fund from 2014 BUB project worth P4M was downloaded to Valencia City and an additional fund of P1M counterpart from the City Government of Valencia.

During her speech, City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas emphasized that the City Government is considering for more opportunities in supporting the social and financial needs of the indigent elders of Valencia City and the social pension is an additional cash to spend for the elders’ basic needs.

Based on the Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, indigent senior citizens aged 60 years old and above are entitled to monthly pension, however, due to limited government resources only those 77 and above were covered by the law up to 2014, but for this year, DSWD’s proposal to lower the age of qualification to 65 was approved by Congress and Senate and has been included in the General Appropriations Act of 2015.
