As part of the City Government’s continued effort to combat climate change and the devastating effects of flash flood, the City Government of Valencia headed by City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas together with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Committee launched the Pantaron Range-Laligan River Ridge to River Watershed Rehabilitation Project consisting of 60 hectares at Brgy. Banlag, Valencia City. The project is aimed at reducing the adverse effects of climate change specifically in areas vulnerable to landslides and rain-induced erosion. The project is comprised of different components that shall be contracted by the recipient- Barangay Government of Banlag thru a Letter of Agreement for the downloading of the funds and thru a Memorandum of Undertaking by and between the barangay and the individual cooperators.

The source of fund for the project amounting to One Million Pesos (P1,000,000.00) is taken from the 70% Prevention and Mitigation Component of the CY 2015 City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund for its Pre-disaster Program. The objectives of this program includes establishment of a diversified 60 hectares timber and agricultural crop species within 3 years, provides employment to the local community by invoking them in the implementation of the project as partner-participants and protect the easement of Laligan River through bamboo planting along its 6km course.

Coffee seedling, bamboo seedlings as well as falcata seedlings were given to Brgy. Captain Jovy A. Boje of Brgy. Banlag together with Datu Romel Masaloon and Datu Mandagwayon.
