Valencia City Launches Model Farm for Hybrid Rice Production
Valencia City, Bukidnon- The City Agriculture Office (CAO)launched the establishment of a 10.29-hectare model farm for hybrid rice production in the city during the celebration of Farmers’Field Day and Harvest Festival on August 1, 2017 at Barangay Kahaponan.
During the celebration, Mayor Azucena P. Huervas, said that like organic farming, the city of Valencia pioneeredthe method of hybrid production and was followed and succeeded by other local government units.
The model farm for hybrid rice production in Brgy. Kahaponan is a program that hopes to attain adequate rice production in the city and to empower the farmers to an increased yield in income.
Huervas appreciated the efforts of the City Agriculture Office under the leadership of Connie L. Dalangan, Acting City Agriculturist, for initiating programs that support the farmers in the city.A budget was allocated through the City Agriculture Office to sustain the said program.
Apolonio Parone, a local organic farmer, was thankful to the city government for having such programthatwasmade available free for all. He was hopeful that those who responded the program will continue to support it.
Also tackled during the celebration is the importance and promotion of synchronized planting of rice which is effective incontrollingpests and regulating the water management in the farm.
A series of activities were held during the celebration of Farmers’ Field Day and Harvest Festival to highlight the importance of farmers in the development of the agriculture industry of the city.
