Valencia City Leads Turnover of Core Shelters to Victims of Calamities

Officials of the City Government of Valencia led the recent ceremonial turnover of the core shelter assistance at P-17C Hindangon, Poblacion, Valencia City on November 21, 2016.

The project serves as a commitment of the city government to provide decent home for the victims of different calamities.

The houses were developed by LGU-Valencia City and DSWD as part of the Bottoms up Budgeting (BUB) project that was implemented last 2013. Each house cost Php 75,000.00 and every beneficiary is given 100 sq. m. enough for them to plot garden for vegetables and other fruit-bearing trees.

City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas added that they can enrich their individual area, renovate their houses and make use of it. She also encouraged all the recipients to strive hard as the government takes heed to the problems that needs to be addressed.

She cited the immediate installation of water supply and electricity in the shelters to address the concerns of the recipients.

Huervas further said that the Juvenile Home Center will soon rise near the Core Shelter Site as well as the Day Care Center for the development of the children residing in the area.

Ms. Amalia A. Propia, MPA City Local Government Operations Officer, also said that the project has to be implemented to fully serve the needs of the beneficiaries and to help them recover.

Propia was delighted as Valencia City was the first to grant the houses from the BUB Project.

“You may have suffered distress and pain from the calamity that you’ve experienced but the government has its response to your different problems,” Propia said during her speech in front of the beneficiaries.

As the key of responsibility was handed over, the sole responsibility for the core shelter has been passed through the beneficiaries.

Mayor Huervas added that the City Government of Valencia is always after the welfare of the people and the officials trying their best to give the constituents the credit they deserve regardless of who they are.

The ceremony was also graced by City Councilors Hon. Rodrigo A. Rosal and Hon. Ramir P. Roque, personnel from the City Social Welfare and development Office, and heads of the different departments of the city.
