Valencia City Evaluated for Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran 2016

Pursuant to Executive Order No. 113 presenting the system and conduct of annual Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK), the City’s performance on the field of Environmental Management and Protection specially on the physical condition of its public utilities, space greening programs conducted and support systems provided by the city was evaluated by the GPK Team, Province of Bukidnon last November 9, 2016.

The GPK Evaluation Team composed of representatives from DILG Bukidnon, Provincial Agriculture Office, PENRO, Provincial Planning and Development Office, Provincial Budget Office and Civil Society Organization had a courtesy call at the City Mayor’s Office before proceeding to Barangay Lourdes. Among the key areas visited were the City Hall Compound, City Open Dumpsite at Barangay Tugaya, Mechanized Solid Waste Processing Center at Barangay Barobo, City Public Cemetery, Farmers Market, Central Market, Old Terminal, City Nutriland, City Slaughterhouse, New Public Terminal, New City Health Office, MRF and City Central Nursery, Valencia City Central School and the City Plaza to complete the itinerary.

At 4:00pm, the team together with the City Officials ended the whole day activity with the exit conference at the SP Conference Room. Forester Julius M. Parian, City ENR Officer, first presented the accomplishments of the City in relation to the Environmental Management and Protection which includes massive Information/Education Campaign in relation to Ecological Solid Waste Management Implementation on the 31 Barangays and the 30 puroks of the Barangay Poblacion, Solid Waste Management accomplishments, Land and Watershed Improvements and Special Community Mobilization Activities.

The team noted some significant improvements from last year’s presentation but also distinguished those areas evaluated where no changes was introduced. Some areas were also noted for improvement.

Hon. City Councilor Hon. Glenn P. Peduche responded to the observations and assured the evaluators that funds to move all those pending projects are now pipelined and fully implemented in 2017.

In closing, Forester Julius M. Parian acknowledged the comments and recommendations of the team as basis for the areas to work on in 2017. He thanked the evaluators for

taking its precious time in helping the city identify the areas for improvement which the latter is very willing to consider in the betterment of the environmental service to the City of Valencia.
