Valencia City Bagged 2nd SGLG Award

Through collaborative efforts and partnership in achieving good local governance, the City Government of Valencia once again made it to the final cut as it bagged the award for this year’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

Mayor Azucena P. Huervas together with City Councilors Hon. Policarpo P. Murillo IV M.D. and Hon. Rodrigo A. Rosal, City Local Government Operations Officer Ms. Amalia A. Propia, MPA and City Budget Officer Mr. Jinny Q. Tiu, CPA, RN proudly represented the city and personally received the award during the awarding ceremony at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, Pasay City on October 27, 2016.

The city was one of the 306 top performing Local Government Units in the country who met the criteria for SGLG and passed all the minimum parameters of the core components namely financial administration, disaster-preparedness, and social protection.

Moreover, the city government also met the measures for one of the following three essentials areas: Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Peace and Order, and Environmental Management.

Huervas said that the city government always aims to ensure a consistent integrity and performance in public service and good local governance. She added that everything was made possible through the support and cooperation of all public employees and officials of the city.

On its second year of SGLG, the Department of the Interior and Local Government aimed to enjoin all LGUs to continuously improve and strive to get their share of glorious recognition by passing the core and essential parameters of the SGLG for the betterment of their service and good of their people.

This is also a way for the DILG to let all LGUs sustain a remarkable performance and commitment towards “Tapat at Mahusay na Pamahalaang Lokal.”

Through the award, several opportunities awaits the City Government of Valencia. These include entitlement to access the Performance Challenge Fund, facilitation of loan approval through the issuance of Good Financial Housekeeping Certification, and other program windows subject to specific program guidelines.

The awarding, which was also falls on the culmination of the 25th anniversary of the Local Government Code, were also graced by SILG Mike Sueno and Sen. Loren Legarda.

The event was in line with the 25th anniversary celebration of the Local Government Code of 1991, with the theme "Pagsulong, Progreso, Pagbabago."

It was the second time for the city to receive the award since the program was launched in 2015.
