Valencia City Celebrates Senior Citizen’s Day

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs collaborated to promote the rights and welfare of the elderly as they celebrated Senior Citizen’s Day on October 3, 2016 at the City Gymnasium.

The program is in line with Presidential Proclamation No.470 which mandates the annual celebration of Elderly Filipino Week or Linggo ng Nakatatandang Filipino every first week of October.

Guided with this year’s theme “Pagmamahal at Respeto ng Nakababata, Nakakapagligaya sa Nakakatanda,” the event aims to pay tribute and remind the younger ones to respect and take good care of the elderly.

Also, the event serves to emphasize and recognize the important role of older persons in nation building, as well as raise awareness and address issues concerning the elderly sector.

Mr. Nicanor S. Agdon, Senior Citizen Federation President, together with Jose M. Jumuad, newly appointed Administrator of the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs, welcomed the participants and presented all Senior Citizen Presidents representing the 31 barangays of the city.

The celebration was showcased with beautiful intermission numbers of the senior citizens with their flamboyant costumes and hyperactive performances.

A contest was also organized where prizes were given to all winners as well as consolation prizes to all participating barangays.

The fruitful program ended with senior citizens applauding the City Government of Valencia for recognizing their roles in the community.
