Valencia City Holds 3rd Bantay Asin Task Force Regular Meeting

The Valencia City Nutrition Office has finalized the special working committee which will help implement the programs on salt iodization during its 3rd regular meeting on Bantay Asin Task Force on August 16, 2016.

Ms. Hazel B. Dondonayos, RND, City Nutrition Action Officer, believed that with the composition of the committee, the plans and programs of the city especially on preserving and securing the iodine content of salts in the market will be successful.

“We have our action plan and its time for us to implement it,” said Dondonayos, adding that there is a need to secure iodized salts before retailed in the market and consumed by the people to prevent cases of Iodine deficiency.

Dondonayos added that the committee will serve as a monitoring team for the implementation of salt iodization program.

Also tackled during the meeting is the scheduling of salt testing and updates of planned activities such as training and orientation seminars among retailers and distributors of salts in the city.

A plan to conduct massive campaign on the importance and benefits of iodized salts was also discussed.

The City Nutrition Office has also planned a move to fully inform and encourage the retailers and distributors to have a proper storage and packaging of salts.

The Valencia City Bantay Task Force ensures to exercise its duties and function by promoting full and effective implementation of the "ASIN" Law or the Republic Act 8172 and sustainability of the program in the city.
