World Water Day: Valencia City Holds Symposium Activity

Valencia City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) successfully conducted a tree-growing and maintenance at Barangay Tree Park of Barobo, Valencia City and clean-up drive along Panlibatuhan River area and river banks of Pulangui River on March 22, 2016.

The activity is in line with the celebration of World Water Day which is held annually every 22nd of March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater while advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources in the city.

Over 400 volunteers comprised of students from Valencia National High School, personnel from CENRO, Dole Philippines Stanfilco South Skyland Zone and Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc. jointly participated the event.

Ms. Melanie Suldano, Science Adviser of Valencia City National High School, said that the institution has been working hand in hand with the local government to take good care of the environment and natural resources here in the city.

“We are glad for once again we were able to help clean our water system and promote the importance of protecting the environment,” said Suldano.

Suldano added that their participation was part of their yearly activity and program which engages the students to actively participate in the affairs of community.

Ms. Jean T. Rejas of CENRO said that the local government conducted such activity to continue protect and conserve the water resources.

"Part of the celebration is the aim to clean our water system and to spread awareness about our cause," Rejas said.

Valencia City Mayor Azucena P. Huervas once said that taking good care of the environment and natural resources is everybody’s concern.

The local government pledged to actively work and provide programs that will spread awareness on the importance of water and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
