Valencia City joins World Kidney Day
The city government of Valencia City joins the celebration of World Kidney Day initiated by the Kidney Care Providers Bukidnon (KCPB) on March 10, 2016.
The celebration was participated by different schools, private hospitals, government and non-government agencies, and renal practitioners.
With the theme "Kidney Disease and Children -Act Early to Prevent It," the celebration aims to increase the awareness of the general public on the importance of taking good care of their kidneys.
In the program, Dr. Evelyn B. Ravelo, Nephrologist and Chairperson of KCPB, gave inputs on how to prevent kidney diseases and discussed the importance and functions of the kidneys.
It was advised that people should reduce the intake of salt and eating of high protein foods for if this is prolonged kidneys may become weak and problems will arise.
Doctors also said that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a key for healthier kidneys. It is important that people should eat more vegetables, fruits, and fish and drink sufficient amount of water.
It was also advised that people should consult a doctor or nephrologists if they are experiencing some signs and symptoms of an ailing kidney.
On the other hand, Mr. Jan Rylmer P. Abayon, Program Coordinator of KCPB, said that the activity was made possible through the funds collected during the Kidney Fun Run that happened last year.
Abayon was thankful for the success of the activity and assured to have more activities that will help spread awareness about the importance of kidneys on the coming days.
The celebration was partnered by the Philippine Society of Nephrology, Inc., Adventist Medical Center,Department of Health, City Health Office,NCUB, Don Carlos Doctors, St. Joseph Southern Hospital, and Laviña Hospital.
The World Kidney Day is celebrated every March 10.
