Valencia City holds Disaster Coordinators Meeting

The Valencia City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) conducted a meeting on disaster preparedness together with the disaster coordinators in the city on February 12, 2016 at CAP Building.

The meeting was attended by different representatives from the public and local establishments, Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations, hospitals, and public and private schools in the city.

Mr. Patrick S. Dap-og, Designate Research and Planning Officer of CDRRMO, discussed the importance of disaster prevention and preparation especially in times of quakes.

Mr. Dap-og reminded the disaster coordinators in each establishment to make their own Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP) to ensure the safety of its people.

“It is important that people should know the safety measures and protocols in times of disaster to save them from serious damage,” Dap-og said.

Mr. Dap-og encouraged the participants to follow the guidelines on what to do before an earthquake and conduct a building watching exercise to identify safe and unsafe spots. He also advised the participants to make their own master plan for earthquake crisis with definition of roles of different committees.

Each of the establishments were given time to pass and implement their master and evacuation plan until the first week of March.

The CDRRMO on the other hand will conduct simultaneous earthquake drills in different areas in the city.

Mr. Dap-og also thanked the City Mayor Azucena P. Huervas for supporting the plans and programs of CDRRMO.

The meeting serves as a re-orientation for the new and old disaster coordinators in the city.
