Valencia City Celebrates 15th Charter Day Fete

Highlighting the significance of the city’s 15th Charter Celebration of the city, the City Government of Valencia headed by City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas, together with City Vice Mayor Hon. Rolando P. Laviña and the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod concluded the month-long celebration of the Golden Harvest Festival and the 15th Charter Day celebration of Valencia on January 12, 2016.

At 6:00AM, a Eucharistic Mass was held at San Agustin Parish Church and at 7:00AM a civic parade from the city gymnasium that ends at the city oval ground was attended by the city officials, LGU employees, national agencies, barangay officials, local hospitals, schools, media outlets, faith-based organizations, non-government organizations, local drum and bugle corps, BSU Brass Band, youth organizations and other stakeholders. Also showcased during the parade is the street dancing competition with 5 contingents from barangay Batangan, Mt. Nebo, Banlag, Poblacion, and Tongan-tongan.

During the program, City Mayor Honorable Azucena P. Huervas in her message said that Valencianos should be thankful to the Almighty God for the good weather and for blessing Valencia City with a bountiful harvest. She also added that the people of Valencia should also be thankful for all the past officials who greatly helped in contributing to the economic growth and improvement of Valencia City. She also encouraged the constituents to unite and embrace the merriment of the occasion as the whole city celebrates its 15th birthday.

Gracing as judges during the street-dancing competition and ground presentation are distinguished judges: Ms. Teressa Barilea, Mr. Proxy Galendez and Dr. Rolando D. Acoriba, Jr, and the proclaimed winners are as follows:

  • 1st Place - Barangay Banlag
  • 2nd Place - Barangay Tongan-tongan
  • 3rd Place - Barangay Poblacion
  • Best Dance Director- Barangay Banlag

During lunch, a 45-meter boodle fight was shared by all attendees as city officials, department heads, guests and constituents joined together for the sumptuous lunch in celebration of the city’s 15th birthday.

At 1:00PM, Laro ng Lahi was facilitated by selected LGU employees. The traditional games are aimed to promote camaraderie and unity while strengthening the bond and friendship among Valencianos of all ages. The half-day activity was filled with traditional games that promote our rich Filipino culture and heritage. Eating contests and group games brought fun and excitement to the constituents of the 31 barangays for all ages while pig-catching, chicken catching and goat catching games were facilitated by city vet employees.

Also showcased during the 15th charter day is the Tabo sa Valencia which was facilitated by City Agriculture Office. Local produce and by-products, local delicacies, vegetables, fruits and OTOP products were displayed and sold at a minimal “tabo” prize.

During the culmination program, the winners of the electric lantern parade and display were proclaimed and the winners are:

During the culmination night, invited guests Bukidnon Provincial Governor Hon. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri, Jr., Ex-Sen. Migs Zubiri, Congressman Rogelio Oneil P. Roque, DILG Provincial Director Bruce Augusto Colao, and Mr. Kent Marjun B. Primor graced the occassion.

The Hon. Governor Zubiri during his message, he emphasized that Valencianos has a lot to thank for and he congratulated the City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huevas for preparing a very meaningful and joyous event in celebration of the city’s charter.

Meanwhile, the City Mayor Azucena P. Huervas thanked Dr. Pol Murillo and City Tourism Coordinator Ms. Hope Grace Maldecir for putting up a great celebration. “The month-long celebration culminates today as we celebrate the city’s 15th birthday,” she added.

The mayor then mentioned the city’s tagline “Love Ko Valencia” and that was the queue for the musical fireworks to begin with the background song and official jingle of the city, “Love Ko Valencia.”

The crowd cheered and screamed with pride and joy as the music played while fireworks lighted the Valencia City skies.

A concert then followed with special guests Rica Diva and singing heartthrob Sam Concepcion.
