Valencia City Opens Golden Harvest Festival and 15th Charter Day Celebration

To highlight the celebration of the city’s Charter Day, the City government of Valencia launches this year’s Golden Harvest Festival and 15th Charter Day Opening Program on December 12, 2015 at the City Oval Ground. The month-long festivity is a thanksgiving and celebration of the bountiful golden harvest of Valencia City.

The program started with an Electric Lantern Parade which was participated by the 31 barangays and local establishments. Each electric lantern entry was showcased during the parade. Every lantern was well-crafted, highlighting each barangay’s creativity and artistry.

Valencia City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas together with the City Officials opened the celebration during the ribbon cutting at the entrance showcasing the replica of the city’s best tourist spots, the Salawao Cave of Barangay Concepcion and the Sagumata Falls of Barangay Lourdes.

During the program proper, City Vice Mayor Hon. Rolando P. Laviña gave his welcome address and thanked City Councilor Hon. Policarpo P. Murillo IV, M.D., Chairman of Tourism Committee, and Ms. Hope Grace M. Maldecir, City Tourism Coordinator for conceptualizing this year’s Golden Harvest Festival.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas, expressed her gratitude to the people of Valencia City for witnessing the opening program. She also acknowledged the participation of the different barangays and thanked them for their contributions in the different fields that contributed to the city’s bountiful harvest. She then declared the opening of the celebration with the city’s tag line, “Love Ko Valencia.”

Also presented during the program is launching of “Love Ko Valencia” Jingle by Ms. Mai Estore-Selecios and Mr. Carlo Galili together with the VNHS SPA students, Upbeat Dance Company and NMR Production Dancers.

Ms. Josephine Roque, Senior Tourism Officer of Department of Tourisn Region 10 who spoke in behalf of DOT Regional Director Catalino E. Chan III, extended her thanks to the City Mayor Huervas and the City Officials for putting up a great celebration. She also informed the constituents of Valencia City that DOT 10 will include Valencia City’s Golden Harvest Festival in the department’s gallery of festivals and destinations.

Mayor Huervas then led the countdown for the fireworks display, followed by a musical presentation by a local valenciano-turned-international artist Mr. Bryan B. Magsayo of Survivor band.

The winners of electric lantern parade contest were also proclaimed:

  • 1st Place - Barangay Batangan
  • 2nd Place - Brangay Banlag
  • 3rd Place - Barangay San Isidro

The winners of Best in Cosplay for kids and adult category were also declared and a concert from guest performers gave the audience a total entertainment which concluded the opening program.

The Golden Harvest Festival is celebrated from December 12, 2015 until January 12, 2015.
