Valencia City all set for National ICT Month Celebration

The Information Communications Technology (ICT) Division of the City Government of Valencia is all set for the conduct of programs and activities in line with this year’s National ICT Month celebration.

In accordance with Proclamation No. 1521, series of 2008, which declares the month of June as National ICT Month, the event aims to recognize the contributions of the ICT as one of the major sectors for economic growth and implementation of national ICT program to optimize the utilization of ICT.

Azucena Huervas, Valencia City Mayor, said it will be the first time that the city government will observe such celebration wherein different activities will be offered.

“In terms of ICT, our city is not behind compared to other cities… We will celebrate the occasion as we saw that the city has a great vision for ICT,” said Huervas.

Huervas added that the celebration will help introduce the importance of ICT to the public as well as to the city government considering that the city is also on its way to becoming electronically enabled.

“We need ICT especially in the city government since our city is also growing… That is why we created the ICT office which will help make fast our delivery of services,” said Huervas.

Huervas also highlighted that with the use of ICT, there will be an easy access and connection in every office especially in conducting transactions and delivery of information.

This support to the plan of the city government to integrate all the information coming from the different offices through a network.

Other plans also include the Free Wi-Fi Internet Access Project wherein the city government recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for the installation of free public Wi-Fi in areas such as public schools and plaza.

Mayor Huervas extended her support for the celebration which will help the participants gain a deeper understanding of the use of ICT and see its importance in today’s generation.

The month-long celebration of ICT will provide activities like the Technical Workshop that will be held on June 19-21, 2018 at SP Session Hall where participants are from the Barangay Tech4ed, Tech Challenge: Startup Competition on June 22 at ACLC Bukidnon which is open to schools and city residents, ICT Forum on June 28 at the new City Gymnasium and Cultural Center, and ICT Job Fair on June 29 at the City Covered Court.

The conduct of the events were partnered with other government agencies and private institutions such as the DICT, National ICT Confederation of the Philippines, Office of the Civil Defense, Department of Labor and Employment, The Hive, PLDT, GLOBE, Wizmaster, Data World, Biss Wiz, Google Developer Group, Copy Landia, ACLC, Streetby, and RCBC.
